Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When and how was For The Gworls started?

A: FTG was started on July 4th, 2019 in Brooklyn, NY. Asanni wanted to help two Black trans friends pay their rent, so they decided to throw a party on a friend’s rooftop and charge a $5 entrance fee. The party was a success — it was packed, and they raised enough money to cover both friends’ rents. While at the party, another friend suggested that Asanni do this party routinely to help various folks in our community. The rest is history.

Q: What is the party like? Can we see photos?

A: The party is a legendary, fab event. Every party is a moment — the moment. You can see pictures in-feed and videos in the highlights on our Instagram, the pictures in the “media” section on our Twitter, and the “events” section of this website.

Q: We know you center Black transgender people, but can non-Black people apply, too? Can cis Black people apply?

A: No.

Q: I am a Black transgender person. How do I apply?

A: Apply on our website using the “Applications” tab.  We do not read or respond to direct messages on social media, nor do we respond to requests for assistance via email. All applications must come through our “Applications” hub above.

Q:  How long will it be before my request is filled?

A:  We try to provide a written response in 1 day to confirm receipt. However, as we receive higher volume of requests, it will take longer for us to respond.  As of July 2020, our turnaround for rent or medical fund requests is 4 months, and affirmative surgery requests is 12 months.

Q: Can we set up recurring payments?

A: Yes. Head over to our Donate page. We appreciate your support.

Q: How do you pronounce “gworl?”

A: Just like it sounds.
