The Beginning:

The first For The Gworls party occurred on 4th of July on a hot roof in Brooklyn, NY. Just days prior, Asanni decided to throw a party to fundraise for two friends that were facing eviction. They tapped a friend to create a flyer and helped build a playlist, asked a friend if they could use their roof, and the rest is history. They’ve been hosting monthly parties ever since with the end goal of raising money to help Black, trans people pay for their rent and gender-affirming surgeries.

Asanni Armon

Asanni Armon is a Black, genderqueer artist. They are the founder and Head Doll in Charge at For The Gworls, party curator, and up-and-coming rapper. They are from Atlanta, Georgia and currently live in New York City. When they aren’t curating parties, they’re usually somewhere carrying, writing, or both.

They see the club as a safe haven for Black transgender people, and by extension, believe that it should be used as a tool to sustain Black trans livelihood. And most importantly: they know this can be done without compromising the carry. Their parties serve as proof.
